Dubai is a famous global commercial metropolis in the Middle East. Because it is located at the throat of east-west communication, it often serves as the center of Eurasian economic activities. Since the 1970s, the Dubai Municipal Government has ranked port development and airport construction as the most important infrastructure projects, with the Port of Dubai being the focus. After more than 30 years of development, the Port of Dubai has become the largest free trade port in the Middle East, and the adjacent free trade area has considerable international influence. In 1970, the Port of Dubai, also known as Rashid, became a PORT PORT. In 1979, the world's largest man-made PORT, Dubai's Port Jebelali, opened to further develop the PORT. In May 1991, Dubai set up the DP World Authority (DPA) to manage the two ports in a unified manner. Both the port of Rashid and the port of jebelary have container repair facilities adapted to the passage of large numbers of containers in order to provide more efficient port services. In addition, the port of Jebelary also has 43,000 cubic meters of super-large refrigerated warehouse. In 2009, due to the severe situation of the global shipping industry, DP world handled 25.6 million Tue Containers in 2009, down 8% from the previous year. But some 125 shipping lines still fly through Dubai. Thus, Dubai has become one of the world's major ports, the world's leading transit trade port. After nearly three decades of efforts, Dubai not only became the largest port in the Persian Gulf region, in the world's port shipping industry also occupies a pivotal position.
